In phpWebSite, I usually use XHTML Transitional, not Strict. How comes? Most templates still use old-skool table setups with width=xyz parameters for example. Those won't validate Strict.

Anyway, Transitional often enough displays just fine as long as it actually validates. You can check this either with the W3C HTML Validation Service. Which is the official way that sometimes finds out problems that others don't.

Or you could use FireFox with the HTML Validator plugin. I do the later mostly, it checks every page as soon as it has been loaded and indicates in the status bar, whether it validated or not.
